Apple may eventually drop the Lightning connector and offer a USB Type C port for charging with the iPhone 15 series. The launch comes on Wednesday by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has previously been accurate with his findings.
Kuo says that according to his survey, Apple may switch to USB Type C for iPhones by the second half of 2023, when the iPhone 15 series will most likely be announced. He says that making this switch will help give iPhones faster charging speeds and data transfer rates.

But with a muted optimism, he added that the final details will depend on iOS support for the standard charging port.
Kuo’s update comes just days after a law passed by the European Union that mandates all manufacturers to adopt USB Type C charging ports for all mobile devices. Most Android phone makers and tablet producers have switched, but Apple is the last one on the list yet to make the switch.
The new order may be inevitable until the iPhone 15 series is unveiled, so these updates from Kuo aren’t surprising.
Switching to Apple USB Type C could allow the iPhone maker to push through faster-charging speeds, something that iPhone users have been deprived of for years. Android phone makers have just stepped up the levels by offering charging speeds of up to 150W. So, it is high time Apple joins the race and gives more reasons for people to buy iPhones, especially those at hefty prices.
The launch of the iPhone 15 is still far away, as this year we look forward to the iPhone 14 series, which is expected to replace the Mini with the Max model.
By convention, Apple should also have an iPhone launch event around September this year, unless production issues force the company to push the launch timeline.
