The tech giant added a new product to its lineup at Apple’s Monday event: a polishing cloth. Fabric made of “soft, non-abrasive material”, available to purchase at apple shop – But only if you are willing to spend Rs 1,900. While the polishing cloth comes with Apple’s signature logo in one corner, it is not immediately clear what sets it apart from other microfiber cloths on the market that are sold at a fraction of the price.

For comparison, premium microfiber fabrics go for about $1.50 each on Amazon. according to a bloomberg Reportedly, this puts Apple’s polishing accessory (which retails for $19) in the race for its highest-margin physical product.

Apple says its latest accessory will “safely and effectively” clean any Apple display. According to the company’s listing on its online store, it is compatible with almost all Apple products, including the iPhone, iPad, and MacBook. But while the polishing cloth is already in short supply — shipping to some parts of the world requires three to four weeks — the reactions on social media were less than impressed.

Many called out to Apple for the high price of the accessory.

One Twitter user wrote, “Apple has the audacity to sell a piece of clothing for $19.”

Some dubbed it “peak capitalism”.

While others were happy to add a compatibility list for the fabric by Apple.

Apple has a history of pushing price ranges with its products, with each new release accompanied by a slew of now-anticipated jokes about its pricing. According to Bloomberg, the iPhone was actually the first smartphone to cross the $1,000 mark. However, unlike polishing cloths, Apple’s laptops and smartphones generally earn positive reviews for their features and capabilities.
