Apple to launch ‘iMac Pro’ with M1 Pro, M1 Max chips in 2022: Report

Reports claim that Apple may roll out a new line-up of iMac with the ‘Pro’ moniker in the first half of next year. These new iMac Pros will sport the recently released Apple silicon and possibly Apple’s new design language.

As per the details shared by Dylan on his Twitter handle, the iMac Pro will be powered by the M1 Pro and M1 Max SoCs that Apple launched earlier this month. There may be an additional configuration from what we saw on the new MacBook Pros, but it is uncertain as of now.

The base model of the iMac Pro will have 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, which can be upgraded to a more capable configuration for professionals.

The black bezels that were discontinued on the new iMac with the M1 chip will reappear on the iMac Pro. However, the design of the ‘Pro’ desktop will be changed to look similar to the new 24-inch iMac and Pro Display XDR. This would mean sharp edges and industrial design. It’s unclear whether the new colors for the iMac will also be brought to the Pro version of the computer.

Like the MacBook Pro that was launched earlier this month, the new iMac Pro will get an HDMI slot, SD card reader and USB Type-C port. The Ethernet port will be placed on the power brick, an approach we saw Apple take earlier this year with the M1-powered iMac. Dylan said Face ID has been tested on the upcoming iMac Pro, but this is yet to be confirmed.

The Apple-silicon-equipped iMac Pro will replace the existing 27-inch version of the desktop computer. The Pro suffix is most likely to differentiate it from the 24-inch iMac that’s already on shelves.

The panel, as indicated by Dylan, will be a Mini LED similar to the recent Apple launches. Prices for the 2022 Apple iMac could start at $2,000 or more, the leakster noted in its post.
