Applying for online learning? Check out these precautionary guidelines issued by UGC

New Delhi The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued vigilance guidelines for students seeking admission in open and distance learning programmes. The warning guidelines include ensuring parity of qualifications with the traditional mode and not being included in the list of prohibited courses.

In an effort to provide equal opportunities to those pursuing degrees through various means, UGC Announced on 9 September that distance, online learning degrees from recognized institutions will be treated at par with degrees obtained through the traditional mode.

“Degree at undergraduate and postgraduate level in accordance with the UGC Notification on the Specification of Degree, 2014 and, postgraduate diploma awarded through Open & Distance Learning or online mode by institutions of higher education shall be treated as equivalent to the respective degree and post-Secretary to the UGC Rajneesh Jain said, “The graduate diploma is offered through the traditional mode.”

Recently, there has been a significant increase in online education and distance learning education after the COVID-19 pandemic. UGCThis announcement will ensure that people continue to opt for degrees through online and distance learning in future also.

Here are the guidelines issued by UGC

-Students must ensure the status of Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) including accreditation status and eligibility status

-Students should check which HEIs have been barred from offering ODL or online programs and placed under ‘No Admission Category’.

-Students should thoroughly check HEI details, its documents, application, affidavit on the website of the Commission. If any student finds any deviation in the details available on the official website of HEI, they should inform it to UGC

UGC notified the list of 17 programs which are restricted to be offered under ODL and online mode. These include engineering, medicine, physiotherapy, pharmacy, hotel management, horticulture, nursing, law, agriculture, catering technology, aircraft maintenance, visual arts and sports.

-A student should ensure that the minimum duration, nomenclature and entry level qualifications under which enrollment is being made for ODL and online courses should be strictly UGC Notification

-The minimum qualification for enrollment in UG program is class 12 pass and for PG program is a bachelor’s degree

The UGC has strictly prohibited the Universities of Central, State, Private or Deemed Universities to offer their programs through franchising arrangement to admit learners and conduct courses through ODL and online mode.
