Approval for development of Kollam railway station

Southern Railway has approved the plan to upgrade Kollam railway station to global standards, MP’s NK Premachandran has said.

The project will be implemented by the Railway Construction Organization using funds received from the Railways. Proceedings to set up a Railway Training Institute at Kollam are being studied, officials are also considering a proposal for construction of pit lines.

A note issued by Mr Premachandran said a joint meeting of railway officials and officials of Road and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala would be convened in the presence of the MP to assess the progress of ROBs and underpasses. However steps were taken to restore services before COVID. The process has been put on hold in view of the increasing cases in a phased manner with the facility of -19 and season tickets.

According to the General Manager, necessary facilities for NSG 5 station at Paravoor are being set up and the work will be completed soon.

As soon as funds are received, work on the foot overbridge and high level platform at Eravipuram railway station will start. The GM also informed that proceedings are underway for construction of a foot overbridge at Kilikolur station and ₹1.1 crore platform extension work is in progress at Mayyanad railway station.
