Around 4,000 nominations for IAF’s Agneepath recruitment scheme on the first day of online registration

New Delhi: ThePrint learned that around 3,800 candidates have registered for the Indian Air Force’s Agniveer Vayu program under the Agneepath Recruitment Scheme since the online registration portal opened at 10 am on Friday.

Earlier in the day, the Air Force had revealed the details of the two-stage recruitment process and its registration schedule, while announcing that the online portal was now open for public use.

As per the schedule, the registration window for the first phase will close on July 5, with the online exam period scheduled for the last week of July.

The schedule also listed that Phase II would be conducted in August, with therapy going on till early November. The result and enrollment process will be next month, the course will finally start at the end of the year.

According to the online portal only male candidates are eligible to apply in Agniveer Vayu. “The applicant can be a civilian or serving NC(E) of the Indian Air Force. If you are a citizen, you must be an unmarried male candidate,” the portal said.

Earlier, the Indian Army and Navy had also released their respective recruitment process and schedules, with the registration window for both the services expected to start in July.

Altogether, 46,000 Agniveer recruits have been targeted for the Armed Forces this year.

Agneepath Scheme

Originally intended as a pilot project titled ‘Title’tour of dutyInvolving 100 officers and 10,000 soldiers, the Agneepath scheme is a four-year programme, directed at potential applicants, or Agniveers, aged 17-and-a-half to 21 years. It was officially announced by the Modi government earlier this month with a goal to replace the existing regiment-based constable recruitment process and reduce the average age of the armed forces.

On completion of four years of enrollment, only 25 per cent of Agniveers per batch will be selected in the regular cadre of the Armed Forces of India. As ThePrint did earlier informed ofSources revealed that the rest will not get the status of ex-servicemen.

The scheme has proved controversial and unpopular with many sections of the society, raising questions over its implementation and employability of those not selected in the regular cadre after four years.
