Arpita Mukherjee’s life in danger, food, water tested before serving in jail: ED lawyer India News – Times of India

Kolkata: Arpita MukherjeeClaiming that there was a threat to his life, the lawyer of K.K. made a plea before the court to bring him in the category of Category 1 prisoner.
ED’s counsel Firoz Edulji agreed with Arpita’s lawyer’s contention that there was danger to her life and further said that she should not normally be kept with more than four prisoners.
Earlier today, the former minister of West Bengal Partha Chatterjee and their close Arpita Mukherjee was produced before the City Sessions Court.
“No one came forward and said that he had asked for the bribe, neither in the CBI case nor in the ED. Can they show any witnesses that he has asked for the bribe? Partha Chatterjee not connected with the crime and the charges leveled by him CBI is not suitable,” argued Parth’s counsel.
He said, “In the ED case on July 22, when his house was raided, nothing has been recovered. If you try to ask any person who is not involved in the crime, he is clearly will be uncooperative.”
Meanwhile, Arpita Mukherjee’s lawyer said that her life is in danger.
ED’s counsel said, “First his food and water should be tested and then given to him.”
While Partha Chatterjee’s lawyer pleaded for bail, saying that he would not be harmed. “Since he is not a political person, he can step down as an MLA if necessary,” the lawyer said.
The ED also sought Arpita’s judicial custody.
Arpita and former West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee were sent to judicial custody till August 18 by the court in connection with the School Service Commission (SSC) recruitment scam.
The hearing ended on behalf of both the parties including Arpita Mukherjee and Partha Chatterjee.
The ED has unearthed several disproportionate assets of Partha Chatterjee since his arrest, including three flats in West Bengal’s Diamond City.
The ED has seized around Rs 50 crore in cash along with jewelery from Mukherjee’s two flats in south-west Kolkata and Belghoria.
After the arrest of Partha Chatterjee, Rs 21 crore in cash and jewelery worth over Rs 1 crore were recovered from the Kolkata residence of Arpita Mukherjee, a close aide of former education minister.
The Enforcement Directorate on July 23 recovered over Rs 21 crore in cash from the house of an aide of West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee.
ED raids Arpita Mukherjee’s house in connection with alleged teacher recruitment scam. Earlier, Rs 20 crore was recovered from his South Kolkata residence.
ED officials also raided the residence of businessman Manoj Jain in Ballygunge. Jain is reportedly an aide of Minister of State Partha Chatterjee.
