Arvind Kejriwal extended the power subsidy scheme for one year

Delhi’s Energy Minister Atishi said that despite a “conspiracy” to stall the power subsidy scheme, the Delhi government’s cabinet, in a meeting on Tuesday, extended it for another one year. People of Delhi get free electricity on monthly consumption of 200 units. Those using 201-400 units get 50 per cent subsidy. Atishi said at a press conference that applications for power subsidies received from October till now can be considered valid till April 2024. “The decision has come despite efforts by the BJP and the Lt Governor to stop the scheme,” the minister said.

The minister was the first to claim that the Arvind Kejriwal government was trying to stop free electricity by correcting farmers and those people. In the wake of Atishi’s lie, the BJP accused her of lying that farmers were getting free power supply and claimed that they were getting bills of thousands of rupees due to ‘charge charges’. Delhi’s Arvind Arvind in a statement thanked the people of Delhi for their support and assured him that he would not face ‘any problem’ as long as he is here.

The government had launched the free electricity scheme in 2019. Atishi said a file on power subsidy has not yet been officially presented to the Delhi government, and claimed that power department officials have said they are under “pressure” to stop the free power scheme. The power minister said that every year when the cabinet note was prepared to continue the power subsidy scheme, officials of the power department were forcibly called to the Lt Governor’s office, where senior BJP leaders were also present.

Atishi said, “…threatened all those officials and a note has been written on the file saying that subsidies to all more farmers should be scrapped.” According to official figures, 5.8 million farmers in Delhi More than 48 lakh people have opted for subsidy from domestic consumers.
