Australia’s Nathan Lyon celebrates taking his 400th Test wicket after dismissing England’s David Malan for 82 during the fourth day of the first Test match of the Ashes series at The Gabba between Australia and England.

England 234/ in 2nd innings in 77.3 overs: Wicket! Lyon got the second wicket after the morning. This time it’s Ollie Pope who’s been foxed with a lot of spin. A length delivery spins a lot in the England batsman who tries to cut it. But with the extra bounce off the pitch, the ball hits Pope on his glove and catches easily. Steve Smith in the first slip.

England 229/4 in 76.1 overs in the second innings: Wicket! Hare finds the big fish and takes out Joe Root, Good length ball with an outswing, Root tries a forward defense but gets a feather touch from Willow. The deflected ball is safely pocketed by keeper Alex Carey.

Lyon became the third Australian bowler to take 400 Test wickets. Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath are the first two Australian bowlers to achieve this feat.

England 223/3 in 73.4 overs in the second innings: Wicket! Nathan Lyon got the breakthrough and sent David Malan to the pavilion. Along with the scalp, Lyon took his 400th Test wicket. In fact it is some time for the off-spinner to achieve this who has been amassing 399 wickets since November 2020.
Labuschagne – Foolish mid-off fielder lays a perfect net for Malan. The England batsman walks off the pitch and tries to defend but gets a thick inside edge on the pad, which is safely handed to Marnus Labuschagne.

England 220/2 in 71 overs in the second innings: A first over to start the proceedings on Day 4. Malan remained calm and was reluctant to play the losing shots. The two England batsmen already have a 150+ run partnership. Can they wash away Australia’s lead and get some decent scores on the board?

Day 3 Report – Root, Malan put up a 159-run partnership; England trail by 58 runs

Joe Root holds the record for most runs in a calendar year by an England Test batsman and stitched an unbroken partnership of 159 runs with David Malan to lead a rally on Friday. Ashes Series opener against Australia.

Root was unbeaten on 86 and Malan was unbeaten on 80 as England reached 220-2 at stumps on the third day. The England captain has so far scored 1,541 runs in 2021, breaking Michael Vaughan’s record of 1,481 runs in 2002. Mohammad Yousuf holds the Test record in his name. He had 1,788 runs in 11 matches for Pakistan in 2006.
