A fire broke out in a building near the entrance of the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday, September 8, hours before the Asia Cup 2022 Super 4 match between India and Afghanistan. Smoke could be seen from inside the stadium as fans were making their way into the venue for dead rubber.

The fire broke out in a makeshift office outside the popular cricket stadium, but was brought under control within minutes. There was no delay as broadcasters and teams worked with pre-match routines in Dubai.

Both India and Afghanistan have been eliminated from the race for the final of the Asia Cup 2022. Thursday’s match will determine the third and fourth placed teams in the Super 4 stage. Pakistan and Sri Lanka qualified for the final, which will take place in Dubai on Sunday, 11 September.

India finished on top of Group A by beating Hong Kong and Pakistan but lost to Pakistan by 5 wickets and Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in the Super 4 stage.
