Assam Chief Minister Himanta said, 5 lakh people will get house under PMAY-G scheme

He said that since 2014, the Center has sanctioned 19 lakh houses for Assam with a financial outlay of Rs 27,000 crore.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Giriraj Singh on Thursday handed over acceptance letters to 12 beneficiaries as a part of providing houses to five lakh people. Speaking on the occasion, Sarma said that the process of providing five lakh houses to the beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G) has started from Jorhat and will be replicated across the state.

He said that since 2014 the Center has sanctioned 19 lakh houses for Assam with a financial outlay of Rs 27,000 crore. Of this, seven lakh houses are in various stages of construction and construction of another five lakh has started from today with a financial outlay of Rs 7,739.50 crore. Steps have been taken to disburse an amount of Rs 1,657.50 crore as the first installment.
