Accusing Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his family of occupying 18 acres of government land meant for the landless, the Congress on Sunday demanded a Supreme Court-monitored probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and Mr. demanded the sacking of Sarma.

The Congress leaders claimed that as per independent investigation, the real estate company co-founded by Mr Sarma’s wife Rinki Bhuyan Sarma is allegedly occupying around 18 acres of land for landless individuals and institutions.

“We demand that Sarma, who along with his family is involved in land grabbing for the landless people, should be immediately sacked from his post,” Mr. Vallabh said. “A sitting chief minister, whose family is directly involved in land grabbing, has no right to continue in power. He should be immediately sacked from his post.”

“We want the Prime Minister to get the SIT investigated under the supervision of the sitting judge of the Supreme Court,” he said.
