Assam Congress general secretary calls party ‘leadership directionless’, resigns

Assam Congress general secretary Kamrul Islam Chowdhury on Sunday resigned from the party, terming the state leadership as directionless and confused. Choudhary announced his resignation in a letter to All India Congress Committee President Sonia Gandhi.

“…the current instability of the Congress party in Assam due to the directionless and confused leadership of the APCC during the last few months has left no reason for me to continue as a member of the Congress,” he said. Choudhary also alleged that no action was taken against the MLAs who had cross-voted during the recently held presidential election despite the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (ACP) Bhupen Kumar Bora publicly admitting it.

He said in the letter that the morale of thousands of grassroot workers like me, who have given blood and sweat for years for the party, has been demoralized by not taking action against the MLAs involved in cross-voting.
