Assam Floods: The flood situation in Assam turned critical on Friday, with nine more people, including two children, losing their lives, taking the death toll in floods and landslides in the state to 55 this year, a bulletin said.

The deaths have been reported in Hojai, Nalbari, Bajli, Dhubri, Kamrup, Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts. Two people are reported missing in Hojai and Sonitpur districts.

A total of 18.94 lakh people have been affected in 28 districts of the state, said the bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

Landslides were reported in Dima Hasao, Goalpara, Hojai, Kamrup and Kamrup (metropolitan) and Morigaon.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal called up Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and discussed the situation with him.

Several rivers including the Brahmaputra, Kopili, Paladadiya, Jia-Bharali, Manas and Beki are flowing above the danger mark.

The Subansiri river was flowing above the danger mark due to heavy rains in neighboring Arunachal Pradesh, prompting workers at the under-construction dam site of the 2,000-MW Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project to leave, an official said. Told.

An alert has been sounded in Karbi Anglong, Morigaon and Nagaon districts after the opening of four sluice gates of NEEPCO’s Karbi Langpi Hydroelectric Project at Langdong in Dima Hasao district.

The ASDMA bulletin said floods have been reported in urban areas in Kamrup Metropolitan, Bajli, Barpeta, Darang, Goalpara, Morigaon, Kokrajhar, Nalbari and Udalguri districts.

Most parts of Guwahati city have been severely affected by waterlogging for the fourth consecutive day, including areas like Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar, Zoo Road, Six Mile, Noonmati, Bhootnath, Maligaon, Bamuni Maidam, Rajgarh Link Road, Hatigaon. , Rukiminggaon, Fatsil and Gotanagar are severely affected.

Road communication has been affected in several districts with 234 roads and 16 bridges damaged, while a landslide on NH 6 in neighboring Meghalaya has disrupted traffic between Guwahati, Shillong, Silchar and Agartala.

An official said the Sonitpur district administration has closed the National Highway 15 connecting Lakhimpur, Dhemaji with Itanagar and Tawang for heavy vehicles and the situation is being closely monitored.

The second wave of floods this year has affected 96 revenue circles and 2,930 villages while 1,06,677 people have taken shelter in 363 relief camps.
