‘Assam, Meghalaya ready to end border dispute’ Guwahati News – Times of India

GUWAHATI: The Assam and Meghalaya governments on Sunday resolved to resolve the border dispute in the last six disputed sites falling under the three districts of Meghalaya, as claimed by the neighboring state.

“We resolved six different sites in the past and six are yet to be resolved. The process started with less complex sites. Now, we have decided to work on the remaining six disputed sites which are a bit complicated,” Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said after an hour-long discussion with his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma held in the city.
Like last time, he said it was decided by the two governments to constitute three regional committees each, which would be headed by a cabinet minister from both the states. After the three regional panels are notified by the two governments within 15 days, the chairpersons of the committees will meet, visit the sites and try to resolve the disputes as per the broad parameters set at the time of deciding the disputes in the first phase.
Sarma said, “We have decided that the regional committee which will visit the disputed sites in Karbi Anglong will also have representatives from Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC). The second phase is complicated as areas such as KAAC and Langpih have witnessed violent clashes in the past.

Conrad told media persons that the process of finding a final solution to the entire border dispute would continue. He said that during the second phase of discussion, six areas mainly Siyar, Khanduli, Block I and II, Langpih and Borduar would be differentiated.
