Assembly Election 2022 Live Updates: BJP workers not allowed to visit Ferozepur rally site, alleges party; SP postpones Gonda, Ayodhya Yatra

Due to a blockade by some farmers for 15-20 minutes, the Union Home Ministry described an incident as a “major lapse” in their security. The PM was supposed to address a rally in Ferozepur, which was canceled after the incident. A BJP delegation will meet the Punjab Governor on Thursday regarding the incident.

Several leaders condemned the security breach by the Prime Minister yesterday. The Aam Aadmi Party said that any lapse in the security of the Prime Minister is unacceptable. Reacting to the alleged security lapse during the Prime Minister’s visit to Punjab, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday said the responsibility of the SPG and IB should be fixed as they are primarily the responsibility of the PM’s security.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Wednesday said the Congress has no right to continue in power in Punjab following a security lapse. This was not only a security lapse but an attempt to physically harm the PM, he said in a video statement, adding that Modi is the PM of the country, not the BJP.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s proposed Vijay Rath Yatra in Gonda and Ayodhya for this weekend has been postponed. A party leader on the condition of anonymity said on Wednesday that the party president’s programs scheduled for January 7, 8 and 9 have been postponed and new dates will be announced soon.

The leader did not give any reason for postponing the programme. According to party sources, Akhilesh Yadav was proposed to visit Gonda and Ayodhya on January 7, 8 and 9 and address public meetings.

The Punjab cabinet on Wednesday decided to provide a one-time grant of Rs 1,000 to widows, destitute women, dependent children and disabled people. This will be in addition to the monthly pension of Rs 1500 being given to them. This financial assistance will be deposited directly into their bank accounts. According to an official release, this one-time grant would cost the state exchequer Rs 277.13 crore and would benefit 27.71 lakh beneficiaries.
