President Draupadi Murmu on 13 December said the nation will always be grateful to the “brave martyrs” who laid down their lives in the 2001 Parliament attack.

Twenty-one years ago on December 13, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists attacked and opened fire on the Parliament complex, killing nine people.

“The nation pays homage to the brave martyrs who laid down their lives defending Parliament against terrorist attack on this day in 2001. We will always be grateful to the heroes for their courage and supreme sacrifice,” the President tweeted.

The victims include five Delhi Police personnel, a woman constable of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), two Parliament watchmen and ward staff and a gardener. The injured journalist later died. All the five terrorists were killed.
