On the occasion of World Health Day, People Powered Digital Narratives (PPDN) has launched an audiobook – Some Untold Things, featuring the voices of teenage girls and boys who have experienced social stigma around sexual and reproductive health and issues . Launched in association with Pluck TV, this audiobook is being hosted by youth champions Rinku, Pinky, Keerti and Sneha.
Engaged with children from several states, including Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, these teen hosts tackle the different aspects of “come with adulthood” in each episode. “Like: What are periods? How does one handle peer pressure? Where do babies come from? Simple, basic questions related to sexual health and wellness that often go unanswered for most teens in rural India, if not always, “Among the topics discussed in the audiobook are.
PPDN says the audio book will also serve as a tool for teachers, parents, and community leaders who want to foster a healthy understanding of these issues and encourage conversation with children.
“It’s her valiant effort to break down stereotypical social barriers in the living room and on social media to address topics ranging from menstruation and menstrual hygiene to early pregnancy and peer pressure,” PPDN said.
They realized the existence of certain issues that everyone was too shy to talk about and captured these stories from their communities over the course of a year. Children were also trained in storytelling on mobiles and using social media to tell their stories. PPDN claims that the audiobook trailer has already garnered 100,000 views on platforms like ShareChat, Instagram, Twitter and the public.
Talking about her experience of making her first audiobook, Rinku, an 18-year-old student from Gorakhpur, said, “We really enjoyed making each chapter, as it covers many of the issues that we saw around us. but never spoke. More and more girls, boys and even their families should be starting these conversations in their daily lives.”
