No, it was not because of the hot weather, but because of a PR campaign by the swimwear brand, Buddy Smuggler. A post shared on his Instagram account earlier this week said, “The election is heating up and we don’t care who you vote for, we want you to vote without wearing your pants. exercise the constitutional right.” Next, he promised a free pair in the form of a $65 voucher to voters who put their photo in their underwear and post it on social media with the hashtag #SmugglersDecide.

Sharing photos of people in their swimwear, the brand wrote, “It’s going to be an expensive election day at Buddy Smuggler. We hoped that maybe some smugglers would offer to vote for a free pairing…we’re up to 100 and it’s only at 11am.” The brand further confirmed that vouchers would be sent to these participants.
Meanwhile, Australian Labor Party leader Anthony Albanese defeated Scott Morrison in national elections and vowed to make the country a renewable energy “superpower”. Albany will be sworn in as prime minister on Monday after the Labor Party won its first election victory since 2007.
