A 22-year-old man died when he was hit by a car while trying to escape from police. A woman, an e-rickshaw driver, was brought to the Civil Lines police station for allegedly harassing her.
DCP (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi said, a 40-year-old woman came to the police station on Saturday night and alleged that an auto driver misbehaved with her at the Civil Lines metro station and misbehaved with her.
After a police team visited the spot, the auto driver, identified as Rahul, was in an inebriated condition and the police took him to the police station. “On reaching the police station, the auto driver was parking his vehicle outside the police station gate when the complainant started getting aggressive. Police officials tried to pacify the complainant,” the DCP said.
During this the accused tried to run away but some unknown vehicle hit him. Police said a case has been registered under IPC section relating to negligent driving and efforts are on to trace the vehicle. “As soon as the incident was reported, the relatives of the deceased gathered for three to four hours, after which they were asked to go back,” the DCP said.
