In December 2021, Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold 10,832 units in India, showing a growth of 45 percent

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has released the monthly sales figures for December 2021, during which the company sold 10,832 units in India. Compared to 7,487 units sold during the same month in 2020, the company witnessed a year-on-year growth of 45 per cent. For the entire calendar year, between January and December 2021, Japanese carmakers sold 1,30,768 units in India, a year-on-year growth of 72 per cent as compared to 76,111 units sold in CY 2020. In both the cases, we have to consider the fact that the market conditions were very different in 2020 with the nationwide lockdown and other COVID-19 related challenges. In fact, the auto industry also witnessed zero sales in April 2020, therefore, this massive increase should be treated as a one-sided anomaly.

Toyota says Innova Crysta and Fortuner continue to dominate their respective segments

Talking about the company’s sales performance, V. Visselin Sigmani, Associate General Manager (AGM), Sales & Strategic Marketing, TKM said, “We started the year with a fresh start and renewed expectations of recovery. However, the disastrous second wave brought in by the new financial year brought great resilience, not only to businesses but also to society at large. The latter half of the year saw a pick-up in demand and was initially attributed to a spurt in demand. This can be attributed to factors helping in the demand, and can be further pushed by the demand due to the festive season. Presently, the growth in demand however has remained on its own.”
