Avalanche: Uttarakhand Police released the list of trainees being searched in Danda-2

Uttarakhand Police has released a list of trainees of Nehru Institute of Mountaineering on October 5, who are being searched after an avalanche on Draupadi Ka Danda-II mountain peak.

A 41-member team of the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) was trapped after an avalanche hit Mount Draupadi’s Danda-2 peak in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district on Tuesday, NIM principal Amit Bisht said.

According to Bisht, ten bodies have been seen so far, with the State Disaster Management Authority confirming four deaths.

He said the avalanche occurred at 8.45 am.

According to the Uttarakhand government, a 5-member team of SDRF and 3 NIM instructors were landed on the Dokariani Glacier by helicopter. “The IAF has conveyed that the trainee climbers who were hit by the avalanche are stuck at an altitude of 17,000 feet. The rescue operation will resume this morning,” Sarkar said.

After being hit by an avalanche, NIM issued a statement saying, “The course reached the base camp on September 25. As per the training schedule on October 4, the course was set for high altitude navigation and altitude gain on Mount Draupadi’s Danda-II. (5670 m). ) While returning from the mountain summit, the Advanced Mountaineering Course met with an avalanche over Camp-1 at 4.00 a.m. 34 trainees and 7 mountaineering instructors were hit by the avalanche at 08:45 am. ”

“Rescue work is on and four bodies have been recovered so far. SDRF, NDRF and Indian Air Force are assisting in the rescue,” it said.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said in a tweet that a team of mountaineers from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and NIM have launched the rescue operation.

Rapid relief and rescue operations are being carried out by the district administration, NDRF, SDRF, Army and ITBP personnel as well as the team of NIM to rescue the trainees trapped in the avalanche at Danda-2 mountain peak of Draupadi at the earliest. Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami tweeted.

The Chief Minister also spoke to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh over phone and sought the help of the Army to expedite the rescue operations.
