Ballari: Ballari Experiencing scorching heat with 40 degree temperature. Hence, Bellary Police is taking special steps to save its dog squad from the heat.

So, we have installed coolers in their rooms,” said HMD Sardar, DYSP, District Armed Reserve Police.
He said that the caretakers of the dogs are giving them sponge baths and asking them to swim in the pool to maintain their health. They are being fed nutritious food, glucose and vitamin D capsules apart from regular diet during summers. “We are also giving soft coconut water to the dogs twice a day and cold water has been kept in their rooms to keep their bodies cool,” Sardar said.
Bellary SP Saidulu Adavath said the dog squad is most important for detecting crimes and locating explosives during VIP and VVIP agitations. These dogs have committed over 1,000 crimes such as theft, murder and dacoity in the undivided Ballari district. We have limited dogs’ outdoor activities to early morning and evening to avoid the hottest part of the day.”
“The unprecedented heat is affecting the efficiency of sniffer and bomb squad dogs. Some breeds become extremely uncomfortable when the temperature is 35 °C. If they are not given proper care; The heat can be fatal,” said a vet.
