Ban CSK: PMK MLA demands not to select players from Tamil Nadu

Alleging that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) did not have any local players, Dharmapuri Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) MLA SP Venkateswaran on April 11 urged the Tamil Nadu government to ban the IPL franchise.

Venkateswaran placed these demands in the Vidhansabha on Tuesday while seeking grants for the Sports and Youth Welfare Department. Later, speaking to the media, the MLA said that he reflected the sentiments of the public in the Assembly.

SP Venkateswaran claimed that though it is branded as a team from Tamil Nadu, CSK lacks talented players from the state in the current IPL edition.

“They are making profit from our people through advertisements projecting it as a Tamil Nadu team. But there are no talented players from our state (in the team),” he said.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals defeated CSK by 3 runs in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday.
