Namma Metro’s Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Avani achieved its final success after eight months at Rashtriya Military School (Vellara) station on Friday.

According to officials of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), it started its second drive from MG Road on March 4 this year. The first drive was started from Shivajinagar on October 13, 2020, and ended at MG Road station on January 6, 2022, after a 1,085 meter tunnel.

“The second operation ended at 3 pm on Friday at Rashtriya Military School (Vellara) station after a 1,131-metre tunnel. It took 230 days to complete the work,” BMRCL said in a release. “This feat was achieved after tunneling through complex geological conditions and two long drives,” BMRCL said.

BMRCL had deployed nine TBMs for the underground section of Pink Line from Kalena Agrahara station on Bannerghatta Road in the south along with Nagawara station. Energy was the first to achieve a breakthrough last year.
