Bangalore-Pune National Highway blocked

Farmers on Friday blocked the Bengaluru-Pune national highway at Haier Bagewadi village, demanding that the Karnataka state government also repeal new agricultural laws on the lines of the central government.

They raised slogans against the state government demanding amendments to the Land Reforms Act and bringing in new laws to regulate APMCs, contract farming and warehousing.

He said he welcomed the Prime Minister’s statement that the Center would repeal the laws in the coming session.

“We want the state to do the same. We will continue the agitation till this happens,” said Krishi Samaj president Sidagouda Modagi.

The police detained around 20 members of the Krishi Samaj and Karnataka Rajya Raita Sangha and later released them.

Peasant leader Ayesha Sanadi was arrested when she tried to flog herself in front of a crowd. Women police personnel picked him up.
