BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir had demanded Hasan’s resignation for his derogatory remarks against Jaima Rehman.

Soon after, the state minister’s leaked phone conversation with a film actress sparked a storm of criticism.

Due to this Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered her resignation on Monday.

In the leaked audio, a man can be heard using abusive language and threatening the actress. The man is said to be Murad Hassan, although this has not been conclusively proven.

Top leaders of the Awami League said the party would take action against Murad Hasan if the allegations against him were proved to be true.

Who is Murad Hassan?

Murad Hasan, who holds a degree in medicine, was first elected as an MP from Jamalpur-4 (Sarishabari, Mesta and Titpalya) constituency in 2008.

After winning the same seat for the second time in the 11th parliamentary election in 2018, Sheikh Hasina appointed him as Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Five months after the formation of the government, Murad was removed from the Ministry of Health and made Minister of State for Information in May 2019.
