Bank Holidays in March 2022: Banks will remain closed for four consecutive days next week in some parts of the country. In Bank holiday Weekends and Holi are included. If you are planning to visit bank branches next week, you might want to take note of this long list of bank holidays scheduled during the third week of March, 2022.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) prepares a list of holidays for public and private sector banks at the beginning of every year. It usually denotes holidays under three broad brackets – Negotiable Instrument Act, Holiday, Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday and Bank Account Closure. All banks including public sector, private sector, foreign banks, co-operative banks and regional banks across the country will remain closed on these notified holidays.

All public and private sector lenders remain closed on Republic Day (January 26), Independence Day (August 15), and Gandhi Jayanti (October 2), Christmas Day (December 25). Banks are generally closed on festivals including Diwali, Christmas, Eid, Guru Nanak Jayanti, Good Friday.

It should be mentioned that bank holidays also differ from state to state. Banks will remain closed on March 17 in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand to celebrate the festival of Holika Dahan before Holi. Holi will be celebrated across the country on March 18. Banks will remain closed in Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong. Srinagar next week on Friday 18 March. Lenders will also remain closed in some states – Orissa, Manipur and Bihar – on March 19 on account of Holi or Yosang. Banks are also closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month and on all the Sundays of the month. Hence, lenders across India will also remain closed on March 20.

March 19, 2022, Saturday: Banks will remain closed in Bhubaneswar, Imphal, Patna on account of Holi/Yaosang

20 March 2022, Sunday: Bank Holiday

Customers should plan their visit to the bank branches well in advance as the closure of the branches will affect the timings next week. Various financial deadlines are ending on March 31. If you have some work pending where you have to be physically present at the bank branch next week, then this complete list of bank holidays will come in handy. It is to be noted that the bank’s ATMs and online banking services will not be affected by bank holidays.
