Bank unions’ strike on June 27 postponed

Bank unions have decided to postpone the strike on June 27

New Delhi:

Bank unions on Thursday deferred their proposed June 27 strike as the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) agreed to start talks on their demands.

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), an umbrella body of nine bank unions including All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC), All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) and National Organization of Bank Workers (NOBW), had threatened to leave. They are on strike to press for pension related issues and demand for working five days a week.

After the meeting chaired by the Chief Labor Commissioner, AIBEA General Secretary CH Venkatachalam said that talks on various pending issues under the agreement with IBA would start from July 1.

Other demands include updating and revision of pension for all pensioners and abolition of National Pension Scheme and restoration of old pension scheme for all bank employees.
