Ronald Koeman has said that the people who abused him outside the Camp Nou on Sunday after Barcelona’s defeat in Calico do not know what morals and values are. Koman was stopped by a group of fans as he tried to leave the stadium in his car. Some abused him and others kicked his car after Real Madrid lost 2-1 to Barca in La Liga.
Barcelona published a statement on Sunday condemning “violent and contemptuous acts” against Koman, the club legend after scoring the winning goal for Barca in the 1992 European Cup final.
“I don’t think there’s a solution. For me it’s a social problem, they’re people who have education problems, they don’t know what morals and values are,” Koman told a news conference on Tuesday.
“But even on a pitch below 2-0, the atmosphere was quite the opposite, and we shouldn’t be paying too much attention to these guys.”
Koeman continued: “I wasn’t scared, there was a moment when I said ‘I’m going to move out’, but better I didn’t. I understand people aren’t happy, but you don’t expect it “
The Madrid defeat left Barcelona in ninth place in La Liga, six points ahead of Rio Vallecano ahead of Wednesday’s game.
Rayo, who signed 35-year-old Radamel Falcao in the summer, is in seventh place despite just being promoted. “They’re up, they’re aggressive and they’re off to a great start to the season,” Koeman said.
Anu Fati may not be fit to play the game. Fati came into the second half on Sunday but Koeman said it was not linked to a knee injury that has kept the 18-year-old out for almost a year.
“He had some discomfort, not his injury. He’s still a suspect. We’ve got him in the team and tomorrow (Wednesday) morning we’ll decide if he can travel with us,” Koman said.
Sergio Aguero scored his first goal for Barcelona against Madrid after recently recovering from a calf injury.
“He has been training for two and a half weeks and has improved a lot physically,” Koman said. “He’s still not ready for 90 minutes but he can start the game or play in the second half.”
