Himanshu Gupta, a native of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, who once sold tea at a local shop, is now an IAS officer. An inspiration to all UPSC Civil Services aspirants, Himanshu faced many difficulties to crack the exam. He took the exam thrice. Though he could not clear it in the first two attempts, he did not lose hope and finally secured the 304th rank in the UPSC Civil Services Exam 2019.
His father was a daily wage laborer who opened a small scale tea shop. Himanshu had to feed his family. For the purpose of clearing the UPSC exam, he used to read newspapers every day sitting at a tea stall. Unlike other students, after moving to Delhi to prepare for the exam, Himanshu decided to self-study through digital notes and videos. He was determined to achieve his dream, and the verdict proved to be in his favor.

He did his graduation from Hindu College, University of Delhi, which he claims was the first time he was visiting a metro city. Despite getting a job after college, he decided to work India And prepare for UPSC Civil Services. To meet the needs of the family, he joined a government college as a research scholar. He thought it was an ideal position, which he claimed not only helped him earn a stipend, but also provided an academic environment to prepare for the civil services.
Himanshu says that it is necessary to have complete determination to be successful in any examination. In his first attempt, Himanshu was drafted into the Indian Railway Service because of his low rank. In 2019, with better strategy and preparation, Himanshu finally secured 304th rank in the exam and became an IAS officer.
He said, “You can prepare for the exam from anywhere. There is no need to travel to any big city to prepare for UPSC or any other major exam. And, this can be learned from the track record of IAS Himanshu Gupta. One can achieve success from anywhere, you just need to have complete determination, focus and put in all your efforts.
