Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar turns 49, here’s a look at his career

April 24 can be considered a historic day in the world of cricket, as it is the birthday of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. The Maharashtra-born player made his Test debut on Sunday at the age of 49 on 15 November 1989 at the age of 16. He played his first ODI match on 18 December the same year.

Many players who played with Sachin wished the “Little Master” on his birthday. Indian players like Gautam Gambhir and Venkatesh Prasad congratulated Sachin and another Caribbean island legend Sir Viv Richards also wished Sachin on his birthday.

Viv Richards tweeted, “Wishing my man, Little Master, @sachin_rt a very happy birthday. May you have a healthy and happy life ahead of you.

Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad shared an old picture and tweeted, “24 years after an incredible innings in the final in Sharjah, he turns 25 that day, 24 years later, @sachin_rt an inspiration and an inspiration to many. He remains a hero. Hardik Happy Birthday to an amazing man.”

Sachin Tendulkar has scored the most runs in the longest format of the game with 15,921 runs. Sachin Tendulkar scored 51 Test centuries, the most by any player.

Apart from Test cricket, Sachin has also made many records in One Day Internationals. He tops the list of most runs in ODIs with a total of 18,426 runs, including 49 tons and 96 half-centuries. Sachin Tendulkar was also a part of the 2011 World Cup winning team.

He has also achieved a historic milestone of scoring 100 international tons and holds the record for most centuries in Tests and ODIs. He was also the first batsman to score a double century in the 50-over format.

Sachin was last seen playing in the Road Safety World Series in 2021, where he led India Legends to a title win. Currently, he is the mentor of the Indian Premier League franchise, Mumbai Indians.
