Beach, shopping or spa destination for an exotic vacation? Survey shows options

Most Indian millennials are keen on taking an international holiday, but are cautious about the COVID restrictions and better connectivity during the process of selecting these overseas destinations, a report said.

According to the BOTT (Business of Travel Trade) travel sentiment tracker, around 73 percent of millennial travelers would prefer foreign destinations with fewer COVID cases.

Millennials, also known as Generation Y, are generally believed to be born in the mid-1980s to 1990s.

The report said that around 67% of the respondents said that they would like to visit places that come with easy COVID policies and defined protocols to avoid unnecessary hassle while planning their vacation in the coming holiday season.

The BOTT Travel Sentiment Tracker report is based on a survey conducted with over 7,800 millennial travelers across the country for a period of five weeks during August and September 2021.

The report further revealed that 61 percent of millennials would seek better connectivity when choosing international travel destinations and 27 percent would prefer short-haul destinations.

“The findings reflect a slowdown in travel demand among Indian millennial travellers. We have started receiving queries for international holidays for the upcoming holiday season, but travelers are in the process of selecting these overseas destinations due to the COVID restrictions and better connectivity. Outbound Tour Operators Association of India (OTOAI) President Riyaz Munshi said.

According to the report, 83 percent of millennials would prefer beach destinations for their next vacation, followed by wellness and spa destinations and stay at hotels and resorts at 65 percent and 53 percent, respectively.

It further found that 48 percent of millennial respondents chose golf destinations and 43 percent of them said they would go shopping destinations.

The report said that travelers are still looking for destinations with less congestion and minimum risk.
