Bears, cubs enter Canton’s house to eat – Henry’s Club

Canton, Conn. (WFSB) – In Canton, a resident says a bear stops for dinner inside his house.

Melissa Crescentini says that three times a week a bear and its cubs broke into her house and ate all her food. Now the officials are trying to find out.

“We were all playing back, there were 20 to 30 people there and the bear came and sat down at the birthday table and started eating pizza,” said Crescentini.

Crescentini and her neighbor Rachel McGee who say they have seen this bear, which they call Mama, in their woods-like neighborhood in Canton.

“The next day I went to work and came home and saw there were apples on the floor in my hallway,” said Crescentini. “One of them bit a giant and I looked and saw my kitchen destroyed, and all my cabinets pulled out.”

Both neighbors say they are afraid to go outside or inside their home, thanks to their now unwanted visitor.

“We have a lot of bears here and everyone is used to it, and we understand what it’s like to be with bears no matter what,” McGee said. “There’s no reason to do any damage to it, but at the same time we can’t break it into homes.”

Crisentini says the Canton Police Department came out and took the report, and that DEEP has placed a bear trap full of donuts in his yard.

“The big trap came after Bear’s third visit when the bear was there when I was at home, and they gave it to him and the DEEP came and they gave the trap and told me all about it,” said Crescentini. “They feel very strongly about keeping the bear alive.”

Officials want to remind residents not to feed the bears and make sure you lock all doors.
