The Department of School Education, West Bengal has issued detailed guidelines for the evaluation of students from classes I to IX. The new guidelines will be for all government and private schools in the state.

As per the new guidelines, students can appear for the exam or complete the activity assignments assigned by the school teachers. The officials of the state education department have directed to complete the entire process by the second week of December.

On Tuesday, the West Bengal School Education Department released a detailed document of instructions on how to evaluate students from classes 1 to 9. It has been said in the guidelines that the final assessment will be done on the basis of the activity task to be held in November. The department has accepted the proposal submitted by the course committee. Question paper is already uploaded on bangla education portal.

The guidelines state, “The first and second division examinations will be subject-based for 30 marks. The examination of class III to V will be of 40 marks in each subject. Each subject of classes VI to IX will carry 50 marks. Students will take the question paper exam from the comfort of their homes. Evaluation of answers will be done by the school teachers as per the newly issued guidelines.

The department has taken this decision in view of the situation of Kovid-19. The board is conducting the evaluation process from class I to VIII through activity assignments. Students of classes 9 and 10 will be given the option to choose between activity tasks or school exams.

“It will depend on the schools whether the class X students will appear in the school examination or they will be assessed on the basis of activity work and based on that they will be promoted to the next year,” said curriculum committee officials.

Last year due to the Covid crisis, schools were forced to assess students through activity assignments. This was the first time that the activity work for the final assessment would be completed in November.
