Justice HP Sandesh of the Karnataka High Court made several important observations about the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and its investigation.

After coming under the scanner of corruption allegations, the state government on Friday arrested J. Manjunath removed from the post of Deputy Commissioner, Bengaluru (Urban).

On May 22, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials arrested Deputy Tehsildar Mahesh and a court assistant, Chetan Kumar, while they were allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from Azam Khan, a landlord.

Although Mr. Azam Khan and Mahesh stated in their statements that Mr. Manjunath had demanded the bribe, his name was not included in the FIR, which drew criticism from the Karnataka High Court, after which Mr. Manjunath’s name was added as a was. accused in FIR

While hearing the bail application of accused Mahesh, Justice HP Sandesh had made several critical comments regarding the ACB and its investigation.

This has put the state government to shame, as opposition leaders like HD Kumaraswamy launched a scathing attack on the government for allegations of corruption and posting tainted officials in the ACB.

Sources said that after being pulled up by the High Court, the ACB had summoned Mr Manjunath and questioned him on Thursday.

Sources said Mr Manjunath has also moved for anticipatory bail. The state government on Friday transferred him and gave additional charge to Sangappa, CEO, Zilla Panchayat, Bengaluru (Urban) as DC, Bengaluru (Urban).

Shri Manjunath has been posted as Director, Integrated Child Protection Scheme, Bengaluru.

This is not the first time that the office of DC (Bengaluru Urban) has faced allegations of corruption,
