BENGALURU: Authorities of Central Jail, Bengaluru recently found smuggling of ganja through parcel post service as visitors are not allowed to meet prisoners due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Parappan Agrahara Police found two parcels with ganja addressed to two undertrials. They were sent from a post office in Bangalore which did not have CCTV cameras.
Central Prison Chief Superintendent R Latha filed a police complaint alleging that on December 25, at around 12.35 pm, the postman delivered two parcels to the prisoners at the main gate of the jail. they were addressed Cariappa and Abhishek, both under consideration. “We found 10 grams of ganja in Cariappa’s parcel and 150 grams of ganja for Abhishek,” Latha said in her complaint.
Jail staff inquired from both of them as to who sent the parcels, but neither of them gave a satisfactory answer. The police have registered a case against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and are trying to trace the sender. 32 kg ganja seized from peddler 51 year old peddler was arrested and 32 kg ganja worth Rs 7 lakh was seized from him.
