“Best investment of my life”: US man buys airline pass, travels 37 million kms in 33 years

Tom Stucker is a Car Dealership Consultant from New Jersey.

A lifetime pass for a famous airline was bought thirty years ago by a US citizen. On the one hand, it was the best investment they ever made, but on the other, it was the airline’s worst mistake.

According to Washington Post, Tom Stucker, a 69-year-old consultant for a New Jersey auto company, paid $290,000 in 1990 for a lifetime pass from United Airlines. Since then, he has flown 23 million miles and considers this purchase his “best investment”.

He has become a man who has flown more miles than any human being in history – 23 million so far, or 22 million more than Apollo 11.

The news outlet further stated that Mr. Stucker once went 12 days in a row without sleeping in a bed. I just flew from Newark to San Francisco, Bangkok to Dubai and back again, which is the equivalent of four trips around the world, leaving the sky only for airport lounges.

Now, 33 years after purchasing that pricey pass, Stucker still often sits in his favorite spot on seat 1B.

He told the newspaper that he realized frequent flyer miles weren’t just valuable for booking more flights. Once you’ve got them, they can be redeemed through an airline, and Stucker has been living like a sultan on United Miles ever since – luxury hotel suites around the world, week-long Crystal cruises, Delicious food from Perth to Paris.

Mr. Stucker has used Lifetime Pass a lot and done it profitably.

He claimed that 2019, when he made 373 flights totaling 1.46 million miles, was his best year to travel. If he had paid cash, the cost of all these flights would have been $2.44 million.

The Washington Post calculated the distance he traveled and found that in a single year, he made more than six trips to the Moon.
