Gujarat and Goa are ahead of their counterparts while Haryana and Manipur are in top gear

AAgriculture, pharmaceuticals and oil and gas have propelled Gujarat to the top, making it the best performing large state in terms of economy. Among smaller states, Goa is in the lead, riding on the back of its reviving tourism and mining sectors. While Gujarat rose to the top from No. 2 last year, Goa is No. 1 this year, up from its third position last year. Among the best performing large states, Haryana has jumped from No. 9 to No. 1. Apart from being a leader in software services exports, Haryana has factories in Manesar and Faridabad that make up about 60 per cent of the country’s automobile manufacturing capacity. Among smaller states, Manipur has grabbed the top spot, improving its No. 3 rank from last year – riding mainly on a surge in international tourist inflows.
