Beware, Delhi Police has warned against this WhatsApp message – Times of India

Delhi Police A warning to the citizens. It has warned people against a WhatsApp message that misuses MTNL name and logo. this is another form of KYC scam. The message below reads MTNL E-KYC LTD with ‘Important Information’ in parentheses. The image in the message reads: “Dear Customer Your MTNL SIM Card Aadhaar e-KYC has been suspended. Your SIM card will be blocked immediately.” Next comes the customer care number. There is also an address of CGO Complex with a PIN number and signature of the said officer to make the message authentic.
“And beware! There has been a sharp rise in the incidents of frauds, wherein the name and logo of @MTNLOfficial is being used to commit cyber frauds. WhatsApp messages from crooks on the pretext of KYC updation to get confidential information to mobile customers are received,” reads the message from Delhi Police on its Twitter handle.

Delhi Police has also shared tips for people to be alert from such scams. This includes:
* Do not share personal information.
* Do not click on unverified links.
*Do not download any app.
* MTNL does not do KYC verification on WhatsApp.
Responding to the warning tweet by Delhi Police, several Twitter users wrote that they received a similar fake message from MTNL regarding KYC updation. A user has also shared the sender’s number. But there is a high possibility that such fake messages may have been sent from different numbers.
KYC scam is one of the most common scams used by cyber criminals to dupe innocent citizens. telecommunications service providers, including AirtelVodafone and Reliance Jio Warns customers against such KYC frauds. Scammers use various methods to send such fake KYC messages. These include SMS, WhatsApp and calls.
