Bharti Airtel ties up with Tejas Networks for optical network expansion

Domestic telecom gear maker Tejas Networks on Thursday announced that it has been selected by Bharti Airtel To enhance the optical network capacity of the telecom operator in the major metropolitan markets. Tejas Network shares up 5% in opening deals 415 per share on BSE.

Tejas will supply, install and support its optical transmission products to bring Airtel’s optical network to the edge, supporting 5G backhaul, business-to-business (B2B) services and broadband applications.

“Airtel is making significant investments in expanding its Metro network capacity as part of its 5G readiness and catering to increased bandwidth consumption by fixed line and enterprise customers. We are partnering with Tejas in this major network intervention. This will enable us to deliver a world-class experience to our customers,” Randeep Sekhon, Chief Technology Officer, Bharti Airtel said in the statement. “We are delighted to extend our decade-long partnership with Airtel, which has established itself as one of the world’s leading telecommunications service providers. Under this new contract, we are looking forward to expanding our multi-services network to Airtel. -The Terabit TJ1600 will provide DWDM/OTN products. “The potential of the Metro network is to the network edge,” said Sanjay Nayak, Managing Director and CEO, Tejas Networks.

Tejas Networks designs, develops and sells networking products to telecom service providers, Internet service providers, utilities, defense and government entities in more than 75 countries. Tata group recently acquired controlling stake in Tejas 1,890 crores.
