Chandigarh: A big development has come to the fore in the illegal sand mining case in 2018. Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested on Thursday evening Bhupinder Singh HoneyNephew of the Chief Minister of Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi,
Honey was being questioned at the ED office in Jalandhar. The ED had summoned him to record his statement in the case.

Honey was arrested by the ED under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
According to sources, he was arrested around 10 pm for not cooperating and failing to answer questions.
The sources also revealed that Honey was summoned several times by the ED after the January 18 raid but he was evading the summons.

Apart from Honey, his close friend Kudratdeep Singh was also summoned by the ED recently and he has already appeared once and given his statement.
It is worth noting that Kudratdeep Singh is an accused in the FIR registered by the Punjab Police in 2018 in connection with illegal sand mining happening at many places in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.
Based on this FIR, the ED had registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) on November 30, 2021 and started investigation.
The ED, in its probe, had found that Honey, his friend Sandeep Kumar were directors in companies which Kudratdeep Singh is believed to have laundered the mined money through illegal sand mining.
The ED teams, after their investigation on January 18, raided several locations in Punjab of Honey, Kudratdeep and their other associate Sandeep Kumar.
In these raids, cash worth Rs 8 crore belonging to Honey was found from Ludhiana and Mohali premises, while Rs 2 crore was seized from properties of others.
