Biden on the defensive after classified documents found at his private home

Documents related to the Obama-Biden administration have been found at Biden’s residence.

Washington:

US President Joe Biden said he is “cooperating fully” after the White House said Thursday that a “small number” of classified documents were found at his private residence, following a congressional investigation into alleged mishandling of official papers. The demand was made.

The potentially embarrassing finding for Biden came as authorities probed a major scandal involving his predecessor, Donald Trump.

Documents related to the Obama-Biden administration were found at Biden’s residence in Wilmington, Delaware, with other similar papers found at the Washington think tank where Biden used to have an office.

Former President Trump hoarded a vast amount of documents at his Florida residence after leaving the White House in 2021, with the FBI taking away nearly 11,000 papers after serving a search warrant in August.

Trump may face charges of obstruction of justice.

But the search for papers at Biden’s home is politically difficult for a president who boasts of his high ethical standards, and it could also complicate the Trump investigation.

“People know that I take classified documents and classified material very seriously,” Biden told reporters on Thursday.

“We are fully[and]cooperating fully with the Justice Department review. As part of that process, my attorneys reviewed other locations where documents were stored in my capacity as vice president. Was, and he completed the review last night.

“They discovered some documents with classified markings in storage areas and file cabinets in my home and my personal library.

“The Justice Department was notified immediately … so we’re looking into all of this,” he said, refusing to answer shouted questions from the press.

– Lost Documents –

Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy pointed to Trump’s investigation by the Justice Department, demanding that “Congress has to investigate.”

Trump had earlier written on his social media site Truth Social, ‘When is the FBI going to raid several homes of Joe Biden, possibly the White House as well.’

Biden’s team has said that if there were mistakes in his official papers, the administration has taken immediate action to correct any errors.

The White House counsel’s office said that after discovering the first batch of documents last November at Biden’s former office at the Penn Biden Center think tank, lawyers turned them over to the National Archives, which handles all such materials.

Biden’s lawyers then scoured possible locations for any other misplaced documents.

In an effort to fend off allegations of political interference, Attorney General Merrick Garland has named a Chicago federal prosecutor appointed during the Trump administration to review lost Biden documents.

The response is markedly different from Trump, who has not cooperated with authorities’ repeated attempts to track down the missing documents – which led to the FBI entering his home with a search warrant.
