Australia all-rounder Daniel Sams defied the odds of gravity after taking a flying catch in the deep during the Big Bash League (BBL) playoff match between Sydney Thunder and Adelaide Strikers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday. Wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey tried to hit a big hit after Tanvir Sangha gave the ball plenty of air in the 5th over of the strikers’ innings. Carey made a good connection but, Sams, standing at deep mid-wicket, took a few quick steps and then flew to his left to apply a full blinder.

However, former RCB and Delhi Capitals players reacted “slowly” after dropping a simple catch a few moments ago.

BBL uploaded a video of the catch on their official Twitter handle.

Here is the video:

Having won the toss, Strikers elected to bat first against Thunder in the first playoff.

Carey and Matt Short made a good start to the Adelaide-based outfit adding 41 runs in the first 4.2 overs.

While Carey was dismissed for 23, Short and Ian Cockbain continued to lead for the strikers, adding 50 runs for the next wicket.

Jason Sangha got the better of Short (39), but Cockbain continued his alertness, smashing a 38-ball 65 as the striker managed a total of 184 for six in 20 overs.

In reply, Thunder could only manage 178 for six and lost by six runs. Sangha and Alex Ross hit quick half-centuries for the Thunder but it wasn’t enough to take them over the line.

Matthew Mott (1/28) and Peter Siddle (2/41) were the bowlers for the strikers.
