The luxury hotel Radisson Blu Guwahati, where dissident Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde is camping along with other Maharashtra MLAs, has stopped all new bookings till June 30. Disgruntled MLAs from Shiv Sena, who are leading the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition government. The official website of the five-star property, through which one can make reservations, has stopped taking fresh requests till June 30. “There are no rooms available for these dates. When a booking was attempted by the last day of this month, the website said we recommend changing the dates or selecting a different rate type if available.

However, reservation is being allowed on the website from July 1. When contacted, a senior hotel official told PTI, “We have booked as per the capacity.” However, he refused to comment on the stay of the MLAs from Maharashtra.

Sohail Choudhary, an IT professional based in Guwahati, wanted to book some rooms at the hotel next week, but was turned down. “I tried to book hotels for guests coming to attend a function organized by my company. But he said that no booking is available due to the halt of the MLAs. They don’t even know when further rooms will be available,” he said.

It is learned that around 70 rooms have been booked for the MLAs of Maharashtra and their associates. The hotel has closed restaurants, banquets and other facilities for other non-resident guests. A senior Guwahati Police official confirmed the development and said that no new guests are being allowed to enter the premises.

“Only airline employees are allowed to come and go as they have an agreement with the hotel,” the official said. Policemen were checking every guest who came to Radisson Blu under the supervision of senior officers. They were returning normal visitors in most cases.

Besides personnel from the nearby Jalukbari police station, dozens of personnel from the paramilitary force and the Assam Police’s reserve battalion and commando units were keeping a close watch on the hotel, which is about 15 km from the popular Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) airport in Guwahati. . , The hotel, located in the Gotanagar area near Jalukbari, has been converted into a full-fledged fort, and has been made inaccessible to the media.
