Patna: Amidst the Kovid-19 epidemic, cases of viral fever among children are increasing in Bihar and many patients have been admitted to the hospital.
Warning against unnecessary panic, doctors attached to major government facilities have assured people that there is no dearth of infrastructure at present.
He said that the symptoms of Kovid-19 have not yet been seen in the children undergoing treatment for viral fever.
In Patna, all the four major hospitals-All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) And Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences Crowd of children suffering from viral fever.
Speaking to PTI, Dr. NR Biswas, Director and Vice Chancellor, Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS-Patna), said, several hospitals in the state capital have registered an increase in cases of viral fever among children.
Dr Vishwas said that the number of children affected by viral fever is increasing in other districts including Muzaffarpur.
“But there is nothing to panic. This is a seasonal fever which happens every year. We are taking all possible measures to handle the situation.
“At present, there is no dearth of beds IGIMS, and we have enough oxygen cylinders for the children,” he said.
Dr Vishwas said that the state government is already on high alert and at present the situation is completely under control.
“We are very hopeful that the number of cases of viral fever in children will start decreasing soon,” he said.
However, some doctors at IGIMS are of the view that if this trend continues, it may lead to shortage of beds in the pediatric ward, said the senior doctor.
According to the Health Department, there is a provision of 70 beds in the pediatric ward of Bhagalpur Medical College and Hospital and currently 53 children are being treated there.
Patients from Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Siwan, Chapra, Gopalganj, West Champaran and East Champaran are being treated.
A child died of viral fever in Gopalganj district last week, following which the district administration canceled the leave of all doctors and medical staff.
In Hajipur in Vaishali district, around 20 children fell ill last week, out of which one died. At present, seven children are admitted in the special ward of Hajipur Sadar Hospital.
PMCH Medical Superintendent Dr IS Thakur told PTI, “At present there is no shortage of beds in the pediatric ward of PMCH. It is a matter of concern, but we are fully prepared to handle the situation.” He said that till now symptoms of Kovid-19 have not been seen in the children undergoing treatment for viral fever.
