Bihar MLC elections: NDA wins 13 out of 24 seats, Rajput, Bhumihar candidates dominate results

In the Bihar Legislative Council elections held on Thursday, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won 13 of the 24 seats that were being contested.

The opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) could manage only six seats. While Independents secured four seats, the Congress secured only one seat.

BJP, Janata Dal (United) and Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party aligned To contest the election to the Legislative Council in the State. The BJP had fielded 12 candidates, the Janata Dal (United)-11 and the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party-1.

Of the 13 seats won by the NDA, 7 were won by BJP, 5 by JD(U) and 1 by RLJP.

Caste has always played an important role in the Bihar elections that came to the fore in this year’s election as well.

Bhumihar and Rajput caste candidates won the maximum number of seats in the Bihar MLC elections. Of the 24 seats, six candidates from the Bhumihar caste and six from the Rajput caste won.

The winning candidates like Kartikeya Kumar (RJD) from Patna, Rajiv Kumar (BJP) from Gopalganj, Rajiv Kumar (Congress) from Begusarai belonged to Bhumihar caste.

Rajput caste candidates mainly won in Aurangabad, Rohtas, Bhagalpur, East Champaran, Saharsa and Muzaffarpur.

Yadav community candidates won in Vaishali, Nawada, Nalanda, Madhubani and Gaya. Whereas candidates from the Vaish community won in six districts.

Meanwhile, not a single Muslim or Dalit candidate won any of the 24 seats.

Around 1.32 lakh voters had decided the fate of 185 candidates at 534 polling stations, one each for each administrative block.
