Bihar: Nitish Kumar reiterates call for opposition unity ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha elections

Patna (Bihar) [India]Aug 24 (ANI): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday reiterated his call for opposition unity ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The Chief Minister, in his address in the Assembly ahead of the trust vote of the new Grand Alliance government in the state, alleged that the BJP “creates unrest” in the society and the opposition will tour every nook and corner of the country and create people. Society aware of wrong policies implemented by the government including discrimination on the basis of religion.

“We (RJD and JDU) have resolved to work together for the development of Bihar. Leaders across the country called me and congratulated me on this decision and I urged them all to fight together in the 2024 elections. Is any work being done by Delhi (Centre)? Only advertisement is being done,” Kumar said.

Questioning the role of the BJP in the country’s freedom struggle, the Bihar CM alleged that they will “kill Bapu too” (Mahatma Gandhi).

He said, ‘You were talking about the 75th year of independence. Where were you in the freedom struggle? In the end Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi) will also be eliminated. We have come together. We will put everything in front of every village and every section of the society. Their job is only to create trouble in the society. When everyone comes together, no one will ask about them.

During the session, some Bihar BJP MLAs staged a walkout from the state assembly. Responding to this, the Chief Minister said that he “must have received orders from your senior masters” to say things against him.

“You (BJP MLAs) are all running away? Only if you talk against me will you get a position in your party. You all must have got orders from your senior masters,” he said.

Earlier, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Vijay Kumar Sinha resigned as the Speaker of the Bihar Assembly today ahead of a floor test to prove the majority of the ‘Mahagathbandhan’ coalition government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Bihar Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker Maheshwar Hazari presided over the assembly after the resignation of Speaker Vijay Sinha earlier today. The election of the Speaker of the Bihar Assembly will be held on August 26.

Sinha’s resignation comes after the ruling coalition’s legislators moved a no-confidence motion against him.

Sinha had earlier said that the notice for the motion received in the Assembly Secretariat was vague and did not follow rules and regulations.

“I would like to tell you that your no-confidence motion is unclear. Eight out of nine letters, which were received, were not as per the rules,” Sinha said. (ANI)
