Bird flu: Killing of birds continues at Chathamangalam in Kozhikode

The Rapid Response Team (RRT), formed to handle the bird flu situation, on Saturday culled 8,409 birds at a poultry farm at Chathamangalam in Kozhikode, where the infection was reported recently.

8,348 chickens, 10 ducks, three guinea fowl, two quail and 46 other birds were killed. In addition, 30,395 eggs and 9,558 kg of bird feed were destroyed. So far 12,988 birds have been killed to prevent the spread of the disease in the region.

All the birds were culled on Friday at the government’s regional poultry farm in Chathamangalam. In addition, 1,882 birds including love birds and fancy fowl were killed within 1 km radius of the farm. A press release said that the process would continue till all the domestic birds within 1 km radius of the farm are killed.
