BJP and SP candidates filed nominations for two seats in the UP Legislative Council.

Lucknow: Villagers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Thursday filed nominations for the two vacant seats in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. Samajwadi Party’s villagers shared the form on the last day of nomination and gave it to everyone, because the BJP’s victory is almost certain due to the sense of strength in the assembly.

BJP has given up its membership for two seats due to the demise of Laxman’s partner and Lal Pyaas, a member of the Legislative Council. The BJP has fielded Hamendra Singh and Padamsen Chowdhary as its candidates. Later, Samajwadi Party candidates Ram Jatan Rajbhar (from Mau) and Ram Karan Nirmal (from Kaushambi) also registered their names in the presence of the party’s state unit president Naresh Uttam and others, an official of the constituency said.

Laxman Ansh was made the Governor of Sikkim some time ago. Atres’s term was till January 2027 and Batti’s term was till July 6, 2028. The notice for the bypolls to the two seats was issued on May 11 and Thursday is the last day for filing nomination papers. A senior official said that the scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on May 19 and May 22 is the last date for withdrawal of nominations. He said that the polling would be held on May 29 and the results would be out on the same day.

Nominated by Bharatiya Janata Party’s Manvendra Singh and Padamsen Chowdhary on Thursday in Vidhan Sadan Auditorium in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak. Voting on these two seats of the Legislative Council will be held on May 29 and the results are likely to be out by the evening of the same day. The SP is believed to have emailed its network on the plane to convey the message that it is not giving a walkover to the ruling party without a fight.

Official sources of the party said that the party leadership had given its final greetings on the names of the two SPA candidates on Thursday morning itself. The BJP has announced the names of Padmasen Chowdhury and Manvendra Singh for the election to the 100-member House of Lords, where the BJP has a substantial majority. BJP’s candidate Hamendra Singh has been a member of the Legislative Council for two terms and has also served as the head of the party’s Drishti-Bundelkhand region. Padamsen has been a former Member of Parliament and is a native of Bahraich.

Voting is being held on these seats in the Vidhansabha Vidhansabha and the victory of both the candidates of the party is being decided due to the fact that BJP is in majority in the Vidhansabha. The BJP has 255 MLAs in the 403-member assembly of Uttar Pradesh, while their ally Apni Party (Sonelal) has 13 looks. The Nishad Party, another ally of the BJP, has six MLAs.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) has 109 MLAs while its ally Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) has nine MLAs. Suheldev has six MLAs from the Bharatiya Samaj Party (Subhaspa), two each from the Congress and Jansatta Dal (Loktantrik), and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has one member in the assembly.
